Penrhyn Old Hall, Llandudno

Settled down a quiet and lonely lane, Penrhyn Old Hall still retains most of its 14th century facade and harbours many a secret or two!

​

Discoveries made in 1837 & 1907 of Roman coins showed that the area in and around the hall would have been on an original, ancient trackway that the Roman armies would have used to get to the Great Orme copper mines.

​

The hall was owned for centuries by the Pugh family, and one particularly nasty incident is allegedly attributed to them. Being a Protestant family, and having a priest living with them, they were made a target for Roman catholic conspirators. Having overheard the plot to kill all the protestants in the Crueddyn area, a young serving girl informed a man employed at Gloddaeth hall. The alarm was sounded and a chase was on. The conspirators were eventually captured at Holyhead awaiting a boat to take them to Ireland. The chief conspirator, William Davis, was arrested, and then sentenced to death by being hung, drawn and quartered. After his death his hand was given as a gift to the Pugh family....this would have stayed as a legend of the hall until the opening years later of an old wooden trunk which contained a old, withered hand!

Penrhyn is a great place to investigate and we have had some interesting occurrences there...As have others!

The hall is home to many different ghosts including an angry young man, to the little girl who haunts the stairway to the Cavalier soldier...

​

Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time so we can book you in and take you through our venue rules and procedures.

There is a strict NO smoking/alcohol/drugs policy at our investigations. Anyone found to be carrying out any of the preceding will be asked to leave the premises.
